Our Philosophy

VAK

Represents the three main senses used in learning: Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic. It serves as the foundation for Whole Body Learning (WBL), an approach that incorporates multiple senses and diverse ways of learning. By engaging various senses and learning methods, WBL makes absorbing and recalling information simpler, faster and fun.

Develop the Whole Person

Nurturing students by enhancing their social interactions, memory retention, analytical thinking, gross and fine motor skills, as well as their musical abilities.

Care for Individual Needs

Our teaching pedagogy has been designed to provide a social learning environment whilst catering to each student's needs. Every class is made up of individuals, with their own strengths and areas that they find challenging. We value these differences and customise our lesson activities around the needs of our students.

Achievable

Our class curriculum has been designed to be achievable for the majority of students. Our classes aim to allow learners of all ages and skill levels to explore music. With gradual progression in complexity, our classes are designed to cater for a wide range of abilities within a class and nurture both musicality and confidence. The Music Initiative teaching approach is tailored to connect with all types of learners, regardless of age or ability.

Nurture Creativity

We value and nurture creativity and self-expression through music. Our curriculum aims to develop a wide range of music skills, including listening skills, along with the playing of chords, which are the building blocks for creativity. Students then start exploring their own creativity and grow confidence through composition and improvisation.

Educationally Sound

The Music Initiative courses have been built on strong educational fundamentals and modern pedagogies. Our Whole Body Learning approach encompasses many philosophies found in Orff-Schulwerk, Dalcroze, Kodaly, Suzuki, and Yamaha.

Fun

Learning music should be fun. Fun is a core value seen in the both our course materials and the culture within our classroom.

For Everyone

We strongly believe that every child and every adult is musical and should have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument.
